TMD symptoms are treated with BoNT-A (Botulinum Toxin) using trigger point injections due to its effectiveness over periods of up to three months. Botulinum Toxin helps to relieve the intensity of the contraction of the muscle which is usually in spasm, causing pain and discomfort. Botulinum Toxin can also be applied to facial muscles of expression and mastication to provide relief.

Bruxism also known as tooth grinding, is the medical term for clenching or grinding teeth. 25 million Americans unconsciously grind their teeth and/or clench their jaw, either while awake or during sleep. BoNT-A products which treat TMD symptoms, directly remove the bruxism element of cases of TMD and periodontal disease. This helps to eliminate facial pain and reduce symptoms overall. Botulinum Toxin is also used in esthetic dentistry cases as an alternative to surgically treating high lip line cases, denture patients who find new dentures a difficult adjustment and orthodontic cases where retraining of the facial muscle is necessary.
